Serena Williams underlined her tag with a brutal quarter-final triumph over China’s Wang Qiang in just 44 minutes as the favorite for the US Open.
The 37-year-old American bankrupt function five times as she eased to some 6-1 6-0 win and hit 25 winners
Williams is chasing a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title.
Ukraine’s fifth seed will be faced by her Elina Svitolina, who beat Britain’s Johanna Konta, from the semi-finals.
„When I play with somebody who is playing well I must step up or go home and I am not prepared to proceed,” said Williams, who earned her 100th singles triumph at the US Open.
„I knew I had to come out tonight and perform well. I’m feeling good, had a year and I am still here.
„Tonight I am feeling great and more importantly I am having fun every time I come out .”
Six-time US Open winner since returning from giving birth to girl Olympia at September 2017 Williams has not won a Grand Slam title.
She has dropped short of moving par with the all time tally of Australian Margaret Court with defeats at the last two Wimbledon finals and last year’s US Open showpiece.
Here she has moved serenely through the draw, steamrolling past three in straight sets – including rival Maria Sharapova – of her opponents.
American 17-year-old Caty McNally is the only player to have analyzed Williams, trying to drive her illustrious competition around the court in an effort to expose her perceived lack of movement.
And which is going to be the strategy likely to be embraced by Svitolina, whose relentless returning is the signature of her game.
Williams never had this problem against Wang, maintaining the points brief with her thunderous serves and flourishing groundstrokes.
Williams dropped seven points as she raced to a 5-0 lead, before the opener was clinched by a second forehand winner by the American in 23 minutes Wang avoiding the bagel.
Williams won 26 of the first-set points in comparison to 11 by her opponent, cracking 12 winners when she landed her first function, and winning 92 percent of these points.
Wang, who had not dropped a set on her way to the eight, looked as she needed to be pummelled with a callous Williams in the next group, completed shell-shocked.
As she did bagel Wang in the second effort, sealing the tiniest triumph of the championship with another sizzling forehand the winners chose to flow in the American’s racquet.
Wang ended the match without hitting at a winner and won four points at the group.
