Report: MLB warns players that sexual performance enhancing drugs may contain prohibited ingredients
(CNN) — Major League Baseball supposedly has warned its players that over-the-counter sex supplements could contain banned ingredients that would result in failed performance enhancing drug tests.
ESPN obtained a memo given by the league officer.
The memo states in part thatthe products are often contaminated with prohibited and harmful components, ESPN reported.
CNN asked Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association to get a copy of the memo. The team said it will not make public memos.
Over-the-counter, sexual performance improvement tablets found at convenience stores usage — is more prevalent among baseball players, ESPN reported citing unnamed sources.
The US Food and Drug Administration has cautioned the public previously about using enhancement solutions.
Donald D. Ashleydirector of the Office of Compliance at the FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, told CNN last year thatthe FDA was combating the retail sale of penile enhancement drug products which are frequently called dietary supplements and that contain hidden and potentially dangerous active drug components.
