When you’ve got no shot (and no clear want ) to win many games, let alone an NBA title, you have got to take solace in the small victories.
On Oct. 22, 13 of the league’s 30 owners voted against a lottery reform program that would have reduced the possibilities for teams using the very worst documents to snag the very best picks. That decision was a bullet dodged for general director Sam Hinkie’s Sixers and an unexpected one.
According to John Finger of CSNPhilly.com,”lottery reform was seen as a foregone conclusion” a day before the vote that stunningly struck down the strategy. The 76ers, of course, were one of the most vehement opponents of the potential change, and it is difficult to blame them.
Switching things up in midstream would have had a particularly negative impact on their rebuilding plans.
Though lottery reform is going to likely be revisited again, the Sixers made a small reprieve.
Oh, and hello, Michael Carter-Williams, reigning Rookie of the Year and last year’s only beacon of hope, finally has a return date from his unusually long recovery following shoulder surgery: Nov. 13, per Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com.
