Formula 1 says it has an agreement in principle with the Miami Dolphins NFL stadiums owners to hold a race at the Florida city from 2021.
It is the most recent development in an attempt by the owners, US firm Liberty Media of F1 .
The proposal includes a brand new track design looping around the Dolphins Hard Rock Stadium.
Organisers face a set of hurdles ahead of the race occurs, including approval by Miami-Dade County.
There has been considerable opposition to holding a grand prix from town.
A prior effort by F1, which comprised a track in Miami that travelled into Miami Port and rear, has foundered after concerns regarding interruptions to business caused by the building of the race trail.
The new proposition is on land owned by Stephen Rosso, the owner of American football industry Miami Dolphins. As the event resembles the Ceasars Palace Grand Prix which was held twice in a car park of the casino in Las Vegas in 1981 and82.
In their statement, Tom Garfinkel and F1 boss Sean Bratches, the chief executive of Hard Rock Stadium, emphasised the monetary benefits to the town of this race.
With a quote annual impact of more than $400m and 35,000 area nighttime, the F1 Miami Grand Prix will be a economic juggernaut for South Florida each year, the statement said.
