ATLANTIC CLUB MAY FINALLY REOPEN AS A NON-GAMING HOTEL AND THAT GIVES US PAUSE

The Atlantic Club??sits alone in the south end of the Boardwalk.

I begin remembering these weekends in Atlantic City and stroll by.
The??Hilton??(one of many former titles for the property) was my destination of choice. Those dishes in The Oaks and Peregrines are difficult to forget.
I still recall my brief meeting with the late James Gandolfini??(aka??Tony Soprano) along with the cast in the hit HBO??series The Sopranos. It was 2006 and the future Atlantic Club, along with most of the resort town, enjoyed a couple of years of stability.
The Club was the basic casino hotel with table and slots games, and it provided an escape from the audiences that might easily conquer boardwalk and the beaches additional north. Especially in the summermonths.
Unfortunately nowadays, its best??known??for being the very earliest of four Atlantic City casinos to shut in 2014.
But the fate of Atlantic Club could soon change for the better.
The Associated Press reported the a new owner had been discovered by Atlantic Club. Colosseo Atlantic City Inc., a New York City-based investment and building company,??purchased it in TJM Properties. The sale price wasnt disclosed.
It is not the closed casino made in AC, but the information will make me wonder if that will be the deal that brings back the Atlantic Club .
And if that does happen, will the reborn home work well in Atlantic City?
After several unsuccessful attempts to sell the 800-room property, it appears like TJM (owner and operator of The Claridge Hotel) finally found a suitable buyer.
Weve made every attempt to discover a buyer who could realize the capacity of The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, said??Matt Bradley, among the heads of development and operations for both TJM who managed the purchase.
The new owner didnt elaborate on certain plans. Letting the hotel sit vacant for the following five years does not appear to be in the cards.
Were looking forward to working in Atlantic City??and assigning such a fantastic property, said Rocco Sebastiani, Colosseos principal. His plan would be to run the property as a non-gaming hotel.
Rummy Pandit, executive manager of the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gambling, Hospitality and Tourism at??Stockton University, seemed hopeful about the Atlantic Club sale.
Locating a new purchaser for one of Atlantic Citys smallest possessions has not exactly gone. A few deals that were suggested were made public but didnt pan out for any reason or another.

It also does not help that the exterior of the building is deteriorating. The 2018 openings of Ocean Casino and Hard Rock turned on the spotlight away from whatever could have occurred with Atlantic Club.
If and when the home does reopen, there is a chance The Atlantic Club sign will be on the building.
Call it the swap on a very long list of property names.
The property was opened by former Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn like the Golden Nugget??back in??1980. Some may recall the commercials featuring Frank Sinatra:
Wynn ended up selling the house seven decades after. It had a streak of ownership and name changes.
Following the property closed on Jan. 13, 2014,??Caesars Entertainment??and??Tropicana Entertainment??bought it. The sale needed to be approved by a bankruptcy court judge.
Later that year, TJM Properties obtained possession.
For the first time since 2014, its looking like there may be hope for The Atlantic Club (or whatever they choose to call it).
And we arent talking about it being used to film scenes for Zack Snyders upcoming Army of the Dead movie.??
But details concerning number of chambers the redesign, and amenities have yet to be announced. That does make me wait a little if Im going to be honest. After all, we all waited for years to get Glenn Straub to re-open Revel.
The one thing we do understand is it will be a resort due to a restriction. And if this project come to fruition, Stockton University people could take advantage of their proximity.
With regards to everything makes sense for the owner and clients, Pandit said a facility??notion might be quite win-win.
Something that is part condominium and part hotel , stated Pandit, could allow residents to gain access to restaurants, gym and spa, valet parking, and area service offerings.??
As the Hilton did Can it create memories? Likely not.
However, for Atlantic City, in case its going to set up itself as much more of a year-round destination, bringing vacant resorts back is a great start. Nobody likes an eye-sore.
