Ashes 2019: James Anderson hungry to keep playing as he sets sights on return for winter tours

James Anderson is”hungry” to maintain playing cricket for England because he plans a return to the group because of their winter excursions of New Zealand and South Africa with the seamer battling to return to full fitness against his continuing calf injury.
The all-time top Test wicket-taker of england suffered the injury while playing the at County Championship for Lancashire and although he had been fit to play at Edgbaston from the Ashes opener, he was able to bowl just four overs.
Anderson stepped his recovery up by playing with his county XI side in the lead up to the Test in his Old Trafford but managed as he had been ruled out for the series to fully overcome the calf injury.
„I’m only about getting over the disappointment on being in a position to play a part in this series and looking ahead to what I can do in the long run,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
„I am definitely hungry and eager to continue playing England. I have been bowling as well as I have, I was in good shape and bowled a lot in the beginning of the season before I got injured at an annoying moment.
„I never enjoy looking too far ahead, I just want to receive my elbows sorted and appear to the next show to determine if I can get myself match to New Zealand and otherwise, then South Africa.
„Who knows how much time that I can play , so long as I keep myself fit and keep bowling well then I wish to continue playing as long as possible.”
Meanwhile, the over whether Joe Root must stay as England captain speculation surfaced after Australia’s 185-run win saw them retain the Ashes.
Anderson ignored the ideas of substituting Root, insisting the batsman gets the ability after a head coach is manufactured, to push on the negative.
„I believe Joe is the perfect person for the project,” Anderson explained. „He’s worked hard to drive this group in the ideal direction over the past few decades.
„That has been hard with changes in personnel in the team, such as Alastair Cook retiring, and searching for the appropriate balance of staff to go ahead but I think he has done a great job.
„The key with this Test side for Joe Root along with the coach which replaces Trevor Bayliss is they have the same vision for your team and compels them in the right direction”
Watch day one of the fifth and final Test live from 10am on Thursday, September 12.
