To be able to reward fans of this over in general, avoid betting on teams that need to get a season that is historical.
Although 67.5 victories might seem a bit low for a talented roster which somehow got better later winning 67 games and making its second title in three Decades, only six squads have emerged from 68 or more regular-season contests in a single year:
2015-16 Golden State Warriors: 73-9
1995-96 Chicago Bulls: 72-10
1996-97 Chicago Bulls: 69-13
1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers: 69-13
1972-73 Boston Celtics: 68-14
1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers: 68-13
This year’s Golden State Warriors are every bit as gifted as the above squads. After bringing all their key pieces and incorporating Jordan Bell, Nick Young and Omri Casspi into the combination, they may well be the most talented team in NBA history. We are even comfortable projecting them to break past the 70-win brink yet again.
But this high up no allowance for error exists. One or two big accidents would make reaching 68 victories impossible. One stretch of cold shooting can wreck their chances.
Stay away, no matter how confident you may be in this bunch.
