Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel says he would rather Formula 1 be boring if it might bring back the motorist killed last weekend, Anthoine Hubert.
Hubert, 22, died after enduring a 170mph effect on Saturday from the automobile of American Juan Manuel Correa in Spa.
World winner Vettel, part of their Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, says security has to be improved.
„I think there’s things we could do improve and better,” he explained.
Last weekend’s fatal crash is being investigated by the FIA, although the car belonging to Giuliano Alesi has been impounded by police.
After suffering a spinal injury and broken legs throughout the F1 support 22, correa has been transferred.
The conversation over safety in motorsport comes just five races after F1 was labelled as”boring” following an uneventful French Grand Prix in June.
„Many people believe Formula 1 is too safe and too dull,” Vettel added in a news conference prior to that weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
„But I’d rather have dull Formula 1 championships forever and deliver Anthoine back.
„To some extent it [risk ] is a part of motor racing – it’s part of the excitement – but clearly the past couple of years are a wake-up together using the departure of Jules [Bianchi] and today Anthoine.
„What happened could not be any worse. We need to have a full image of a good deal of components to draw any conclusions today is not appropriate and exactly what everyone would expect although I think it’s going to be examined in a really detailed way that’s right.
„I am a fan of holding races in Spa because it’s a wonderful track which has a terrific history and lots of the corners are somewhat exceptional, but for certain after what happened we need to have a very close look and require a while to understand exactly what happened.”
Roland Ratzenberger and ayrton Senna will be the last drivers to expire in 1994 during an F1 race weekend at Imola. Once Jules Bianchi died after suffering head injuries there wasn’t a different driver fatality in F1 until 2015.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc committed his triumph Spa to his former friend and rival Hubert, and stated that while he had been mindful of the dangers involved in racing,”it’s always a shock when something like this happens”.
Leclerc additional:”Anytime you proceed at that rate it will always be dangerous. On the other hand, every time I’m going into the car I’m going in with exactly the mindset, and I believe we are all attempting to do this even with what occurred on Saturday.
„When you are getting in your car you are trying to be in the zone, trying to think about what you have to do and you want to race as hard as you can to finish as high as possible.”
The usage of asphalt run-off areas has been questioned together with some arguing that gravel traps would limit the dangers drivers are prepared to shoot and possibly prevent a vehicle from bouncing back after an accident.
„Some of it’s correct, the Tarmac run-off areas do encourage us to keep pushing since it doesn’t have an immediate consequence,” explained Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg.
„There always has to be the perfect balance somewhere, and maybe we should have some customised options for corners like Eau Rouge in the way that we do not see that corner till you come up the hill.”
