Ashes 2019: James Anderson hungry to keep playing as he sets sights on return for winter tours

James Anderson is”hungry” to maintain playing cricket for England as he plans a return to the squad to their winter excursions of New Zealand and South Africa together with the seamer battling to return to full fitness from his continuing calf injury.
The injury was suffered by the all-time top Evaluation wicket-taker of england whilst enjoying the at County Championship for Lancashire and although he was still fit to play in Edgbaston from the Ashes opener, he managed to bowl four overs.
Anderson stepped his recovery up by playing his county’s next XI side in the lead up to the Test at his home floor Old Trafford but was unable as he had been ruled out for the series to completely overcome the calf injury.
„I am just about getting over the disappointment about being able to play a part in this series and awaiting what I can do in the long run,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
„I’m definitely hungry and keen to continue playing England. I have been bowling and I have, I bowled quite a lot for Lancashire at the start of the year and was in really good form until I got wounded in an moment.
„I’d enjoy looking too far ahead, I just want to receive my elbows sorted and look to another show to find out if I can get myself match to New Zealand and if not, then South Africa.
„Who knows how long I could play , so long as I keep myself fit and maintain bowling well then I want to continue playing as long as you can.”
Meanwhile, speculation whether Joe Root must remain as England captain surfaced after Australia win saw them retain the Ashes.
Anderson ignored the ideas of replacing Root, insisting the batsman gets the capacity to push on the side once a head coach is appointed.
„I believe Joe is the right man for the project,” Anderson explained. „He has worked tirelessly to drive this team in the perfect direction over the past couple of years.
„That has been hard with changes in personnel in the group, such as Alastair Cook retiring, and searching for the right balance of team to go ahead but I believe he’s done a great job.
„The key for this Evaluation side for Joe Root and the trainer who simplifies Trevor Bayliss is they have the same vision for your group and drives them in the right direction”
View day among the fifth and final Test, at The Oval, live on Sky Sports The Ashes September 12, from 10am on Thursday.
