Ashes 2019: James Anderson hungry to keep playing as he sets sights on return for winter tours

James Anderson is”hungry” to maintain playing cricket for England as he targets a return to the group because of their winter excursions of New Zealand and South Africa together with the seamer fighting to return to full fitness against his ongoing calf injury.
The injury was suffered by england’s all-time leading Evaluation wicket-taker while playing the in County Championship for Lancashire and even though he had been fit to play in Edgbaston in the Ashes opener, before enduring a reoccurrence of the accident he managed to bowl four overs.
Anderson stepped his comeback up from playing for his county’s second XI side from the lead up to the fourth Test at his home ground Old Trafford but managed as he was ruled out for the series to overcome the calf injury.
„I’m only about getting over the disappointment on being able to play a role in this series and awaiting what I could do in the long run,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
„I am definitely hungry and eager to keep playing England. Before I got wounded in an moment I have been bowling as well as I have, I was in good form and bowled a lot for Lancashire at the start of the year.
„I never enjoy looking too far ahead, I only want to receive my calf sorted and try to the next series to find out if I can get myself fit to New Zealand and if not, then South Africa.
„Who knows how long I will play for, as long as I can keep myself fit and maintain bowling well then I wish to continue playing as much as you can.”
Meanwhile, the whether Joe Root should remain as England captain speculation surfaced following Australia’s 185-run triumph saw them keep the Ashes.
But, Anderson dismissed the thoughts of substituting Root, insisting the batsman has the capability once a brand new head coach is made to push the negative forward.
„I believe Joe is the right man for the job,” Anderson explained. „He has worked tirelessly to drive this team in the perfect direction during the past couple of years.
„That has been hard with changes in staff in the group, such as Alastair Cook retiring, and looking for the right balance of team to go ahead but I believe he has done a good job.
„The key with this Exam side for Joe Root along with the coach who simplifies Trevor Bayliss is that they have exactly the identical vision for your group and compels them in the right direction.”
View day among the fifth and final Test live from 10am on Thursday on Sky Sports The Ashes, September 12.
