Andrew Strauss and former England captains Geoffrey Boycott are given knighthoods at Minister Theresa May’s resignation honours list.
78, boycott, was captain on four occasions in 1978 instead of the injured Mike Brearley and scored 8,114 runs in 108 Tests for England from 1964 to 1982.
Strauss directed England to the number one Test standing two Ashes wins, as well as, in their own 50 Tests.
The 42-year-old scored 7,037 runs in an average of 40.91 in 100 England Tests.
Over the duration of his career, Boycott scored 151 centuries and over 48,000 runs and averaged 56,83 using the bat .
Following his retirement, Boycott has gone on to become a broadcaster that was thriving and is a part of the BBC’s cricket commentary team.
The Yorkshireman has been forced to apologise after reportedly saying it would be more likely he’d be knighted if he was to’his head’.
Strauss combined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) since England’s manager of cricket following his retirement from all forms of cricket at 2012.
He abandoned the function to support his wife Ruth who was being treated for terminal cancerand went on to launch a foundation in her name.
Former England coach Andy Flower, who had been during Strauss’ period as captain in control, paid tribute to his former skipper.
„I can’t think of a man more deserving of the honor,” Flower said.
„As a player he had been resilient and tough, as a captain he balanced a firm hand and ethical compass using a compassion and empathy that supposed he had been respected and loved in the dressing area by his own players and the staff”
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison explained:”Our heartfelt congratulations go to Sir Geoffrey Boycott – honoured for his long career and enthusiastic devotion to the game.
„In May 2015, Andrew was invited to join with the ECB as manager, England championships, to shape the future plan of the men’s international teams – as a way to enable an environment which could see England as live contenders for the World Cup in 2019, a goal they thrillingly delivered just a few short months ago.
„It was using the identical course and courage that he along with his family setup the Ruth Strauss Foundation to raise money and awareness just a couple months after dropping Ruth into a rare type of cancer.
„Apart from his achievements on and off the pitch,” Andrew is widely considered to be an exceptional person within our game and this fantastic accolade is going to be celebrated around the cricketing world.”
