Leafs deal Kadri to Avs for Barrie, Kerfoot
Two veterans left handed the sole NHL teams they’ve played for, as the Colorado Avalanche obtained forward Nazem Kadri on Monday in a deal that sent defenseman Tyson Barrie into the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Colorado picked up defenseman Calle Rosen and a 2020 draft pick . Toronto also got forward Alex Kerfoot along with a 2020 sixth-round choice. In addition the Avalanche are retaining half of the $5.5 million cap hit the last season of Barrie’s contract.
Kadri conveys a cap hit of $4.5 million throughout each of the subsequent three seasons as a piece of a six-year, $27 million deal he signed April 2016, according to capfriendly.com.
Kadri, 28, played 10 seasons in Toronto, compiling 161 aims and 196 aids in 561 games.
„Nazem is an established goal scorer and a ferocious competitor who plays in all situations,” Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said in a statement. „He is under contract to the next three seasons and will immediately fit right in as our second-line centre and improve our scoring depth.
Last season, he produced 16 goals and 28 assists in 73 games. However, he had been suspended for the rest of the first round of the playoffs after cross-checking the Boston Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk through Game 2. Toronto was eliminated in Game 7 of the series.
It was the next spring in a row in which Kadri was suspended during the postseason. In April 2018, Kadri obtained a three-game ban for boarding Boston’s Tommy Wingels at Game 1 of a first-round series. As with the next season, the Maple Leafs lost in seven matches to the Bruins.
27, barrie, spent eight seasons setting 232 assists and 75 aims up. He had 45 assists and 14 goals last season.

Kerfoot, 24, has played 157 NHL games, all in the past two seasons with the Avalanche. He had 19 goals and 24 assists as a rookie in 2017-18, then 15 goals and 27 assists in 2018-19.
Rosen, 25, appeared in four games for the Maple Leafs each of the past two seasons. He’s one assist and just one NHL goal.
