A 2-0 lead threw away at Watford as Quique Sanchez Flores’ side got a 2-2 draw.
A normally expert ending from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had Arsenal ahead (21) despite Watford’s calls for a foul in the accumulation, along with the Gabon striker made it 2-0 shortly after with an easy finish from a nice Gunners movement (32).
Watford halved the deficit only after the break through Tom Cleverley since Sokratis was captured playing from the trunk (53), also Arsenal shot themselves in the foot as David Luiz tripped sub Roberto Pereyra in the area, and he duly dispatched the penalty (81).
Watford should have won it at a final 15 minutes, but also the event ended level while Watford stay bottom but with their confidence back.
Although Arsenal appeared clinical at the third they faced 31 shots in their target, the most they have ever faced in a Premier League fixture because Opta began collecting such information.
Following a reception for arriving manager Quique, Watford on top in the early stages, went closest during Tom Cleverley’s long-range effort tipped over the bar by Bernd Leno, as Arsenal struggled to find.
However, the lead was taken by the Gunners . Watford pleaded as Dani Ceballos robbed Will Hughes on halfway to get a free-kick, as Sead Kolasinac fed Aubameyang, whose emphatic signature and shot defeat Ben 32, but play . VAR Daniel Cook briefly looked, but was satisfied with the choice.
As Mesut Ozil, enjoying his first minutes this season, brightly fed Ainsley Maitland-Niles in-behind the defence to the right of the box it was 2-0 only 11 minutes after, and his centre was for Aubameyang to come home, simple. Though the striker took the glory, both Maitland-Niles’ conduct and the spot of Ozil were remarkable.
Having been captured playing out from the trunk at the first half, Arsenal did not learn their lesson. Sokratis’ forward pass from six yards out after Gerard Deulofeu intercepted a Leno target kick as well as the ball fell kindly for Cleverley to sweep house. Replays showed once the goal-kick was shot, Deulofeu was at the box, however, the goal stood.
Watford had their tails up, peppering Leno’s goal from all angles, as Arsenal brought in an attempt to Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil and Dani Ceballos on Lucas Torreira, Reiss Nelson along with Joe Willock.
Watford sub Ismaila Sarr went close, as he turned with his back to target following Deulofeu pass dragging broad, but they got the goal their pressure deserved through another Luiz mishap.
The Brazilian was outdone by the catchy feed of Pereyra just within the box, and it had been the Argentine himself that dusted himself off to slot bottom left corner to 2-2.
The roof would have lifted off Vicarage Road had Deulofeu not missed the far post by inches just minutes later, or’d Leno not saved from Abdoulaye Doucoure in point-blank range, but it somehow ended level despite the chaos of the’you still have a visit, we have a go’ final 15 minutes.
Arsenal go to Eintracht Frankfurt in their first Europa League group-stage clash on Thursday at 5.55pm, prior to hosting Aston Villa at the Premier League on Sunday at 4.30pm. Watford visit champions Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday at 3pm.
